ACTIVITIES & LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
A great variety of aquatic activities are offered throughout the
Puerto Vallarta area beaches, including surfing, snorkeling, kayaking and water
skiing. Yachts and catamarans are available for rent or charter a boat to go deep sea fishing or simply to sail the coast.
Along the northern shores of Banderas Bay is a reasonably exposed reef break that has consistant surf and offers year round action for
surfers, though winter is the optimum time of the year.
Swim with the dolphins or become a trainer for a day at Dolphin Adventure, one of the few dolphin and marine mammal educational centers
in the world that offer people of all ages the opportunity to experience up-close and personal experiences with Bottlenose dolphins and
friendly sea lions.
For the more sedate, there is whale watching, right from the Villa Koi living room or pool deck. Banderas Bay is the birthplace of
the Humpback Whale. From December to April, they will regale you with their aquatic acrobatics, as they play with each other, breeching
and flapping their gigantic tails and nursing their babies.
Puerto Vallarta is home to seven world-class golf courses, including designs by some of the greats such as Jack Nicklaus,
Tom Weiskopf, and Robert Van Hagge. The best that golf has to offer may well be the Punta Mita golf course at the Four Seasons resort,
where Pebble Beach scenery mixes with turquoise-colored Pacific Ocean golf holes and perfect winter temperatures. Greens on a natural
black lava-rock island, lush tropical meandering fairways and epic views of the Sierra Mountains make for a visually exciting and
challenging round
Landlubbers may prefer to take advantage of interesting and exciting horseback riding or backcountry ATV tours, taking you deep into
the jungle, to plantations, small country towns, and many different ecological reserves. Some tours let you ride close to rivers and
lagoons where you can have a refreshing swim. Others will take you to zipline the tropical canopies off the southern shores of Banderas Bay.
Shoppers won’t be disappointed, as Puerto Vallarta is a shopper’s paradise. The city has hundreds of shops where visitors can
purchase, designer fashions, trinkets, sombreros, collector crafts and art from all over Mexico and beyond. Everything is available --
from the exquisite yarn and intricate bead work of the Huichol Indians to the most exquisite silver merchandise available at the
hundreds of silver shops in and around Puerto Vallarta.
